So what is WOMEX?
WOMEX stands for the World Music Expo and is, simply put, a huge five-day event that showcases the world’s music through concerts, conferences, expos and more. The list of attendees would take you a day to read it is so long, meaning you are sure to be among like-minded music lovers. 2,400 delegates and 1,470 companies from over 90 countries will pack themselves into the venue spaces and discuss, judge and enjoy this incredible art form. On the last day of the event, the judges pick the best performers and give out the Professional Excellence, Life Achievement Artist and Label Awards.
Where are the venues?
This year is the first year that WOMEX is to be held in Eastern Europe and Budapest welcomes it with open arms. Holding this music festival in Eastern Europe means that it is more affordable for artists from Eastern Europe to join the expo. Therefore, there will be a greater selection of artists and genres of music to enjoy. During the day, the expos will be held at Bálna on the banks of the Danube River. Here you will find the expositions, day screenings and the trade fair. At night, the music moves downtown and is held in a number of venues by the water, including the Palace of Arts and on the A38 Ship.
